Erection of a solar farm with a capacity of 16MW comprising solar PV panels and ancillary development.

The site is in the Green Belt and has two Public Rights of Way running through it which are highly valued by local residents for recreational purposes. CPRE Hertfordshire is supportive of renewable energy, particularly solar energy generation on rooftops, but we believe ground-mounted solar installations of the type proposed here would be highly damaging and would effectively industrialise the landscape in this location. Also, the site is 90% comprised of Best-and-Most Versatile agricultural land, which should remain in food production. The application is arguing the site is ‘grey belt’ but we disagree. For all of these reasons we urge the Council to refuse permission for this inappropriate development.
