St Albans City & District Draft Local Plan, our full representation
St Albans City & District Council is conducting a public consultation on its new Draft Local Plan to 2041. The consultation deadline is 25th September 2023 and we urge all local residents to comment on the proposals, as the Plan will directly affect everyone.
We have completed our analysis and submitted our full representation to the Council. We have a number of significant concerns, including the proposed release of 792 hectares of Green Belt land for development. There is inadequate treatment of the climate emergency, a minimalistic approach to biodiversity and the natural environment, insufficient provisions regarding water supply, waste water treatment and other utilities, and many other short-comings and omissions. Most crucially, the Draft Local Plan completely fails to provide for the protection and enhancement of designated protected land such as the Green Belt, which makes up a large percentage of the land area of the district.
