Massive solar farm threatens Hertsmere Green Belt

26th February 2021

We have submitted our strong objection to planning application 21/0050/FULEI in Hertsmere, proposing a massive solar farm in the Green Belt.

We usually advocate for renewable energy. But not in this case where 130 hectares of countryside would be built on.

This Green Belt land performs a vital function as open countryside, used for agriculture, recreation, and conservation and enhancement of the natural environment. The area is extensively used by walkers and local communities for recreational purposes, and the proposed development would be visible over a wide area and from several public rights of way.

The importance of open countryside has been constantly emphasised throughout the pandemic and the beneficial aspects of maintaining such areas are increasingly being recognised.
