Walk 100 miles of CPRE Hertfordshire’s walks to celebrate National CPRE’s centenary.

2026 marks 100 years of National CPRE and its work to protect the English countryside for everyone. To celebrate this important milestone, CPRE Hertfordshire is promoting our self-guided walks for our supporters to enjoy through our ‘Walk 100 Miles’ challenge.

Join our ‘Walk 100 Miles’ challenge and help raise funds to continue our work protecting Hertfordshire’s countryside for generations to come.

Walk as many miles as you can or the full 100 miles – the main mission is to enjoy Hertfordshire’s countryside!

Choose from our range of three dozen walking routes covering the breadth of Hertfordshire’s countryside. These have been specially devised by our CPRE Hertfordshire volunteers for their beautiful views and unique landscapes.

What is the ‘Walk 100 Miles’ challenge?

The challenge is to walk 100 miles – or as many miles as you can manage – any time between January and September 2026. You can complete your challenge across any walks found on our self-guided walks webpage. You can choose to repeat the same walk within the time period if you discover a walk you particularly enjoy.

You can also choose how to split your miles across the time period. Whether you walk a short distance every day or cover longer distances on weekends, the challenge is yours to personalise.

Guided walks

If you prefer, we will also be running guided walks on some of these routes. Our dates and locations for guided walks will be published shortly.

CPRE Centenary Photography Competition

If you’re a keen photographer, you can also enter our CPRE Centenary Photography Competition taking snaps of Hertfordshire’s landscapes, flora and wildlife on the way!

How to get started

  1. Register for our ‘Walk 100 Miles’ challenge via our Registration Form and receive your CPRE pin badge through the post once submitted.
  2. Download the sponsorship form.
  3. Download the distance tracker (please mark on the form the distances and walks completed).
  4. When you have completed your ‘Walk 100 Miles’ challenge, email your completed sponsorship form and distance tracker to: 100miles@cpreherts.org.uk  Or if you prefer, you can send paper copies of these through the post to: CPRE Hertfordshire, 31A Church Street, Welwyn AL6 9LW
  5. Pay in your donations and add ‘100 mile challenge’ in the notes section.

Our ‘Walk 100 Miles’ Challenge – Frequently Asked Questions

Interested in joining us for the Walk 100 Miles challenge? Find out the answers to frequently asked questions.

The challenge is to walk (or run) 100 miles – or as many miles as you can manage – anytime between January-September 2026. You must select the routes from among our self-guided walks. You can repeat the same walks or discover more of our countryside by choosing different walks. You could do shorter distances every day or cover longer ones on the weekends, the challenge is yours to personalise.

How much is it to take part in the Walk 100 Miles challenge?

Free! There is no participation fee for this challenge.

When do I have to take on the challenge?

The challenge officially starts on 1st January 2026, but you don’t have to start then. As long as your challenge is completed by 30th September 2026, participants are free to choose their own start date.

Who can take part?

The challenge is open to everyone. People aged 16 and below can get involved, but they will need to have an adult register them on their behalf.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes, you will receive a CPRE Hertfordshire ‘Walk 100 Miles’ certificate at the end of the challenge via email.

How much sponsorship do I need to raise?

There is no set amount that you must raise. We just ask you do your best to collect as many donations as you can.

How do I register for the challenge?

To sign-up for the challenge and receive your free CPRE pin badge, you’ll need to complete our registration form and set up your fundraising page.

I’ve registered for the challenge, but I haven’t set up my fundraising page yet. How do I do this?

If you have already completed the registration form, but haven’t set up your fundraiser yet, you can do so by setting up a JustGiving page here: Set up a JustGiving page – it will allow friends and family to donate to you and is also a fantastic place to update everyone on your progress.

I don’t want to set up an online fundraiser. Can I fundraise offline?

Yes, you can fundraise offline. Simply download and print off our sponsorship form to keep track of all your fundraising. If you do choose to fundraise offline, please email us at: 100miles@cpreherts.org.uk so we can make a note of your chosen fundraising method.

How can I pay in my offline donations?

To donate the offline funds to us once you’ve completed your fundraising, you can make your donation online via our donations webpage. Or you can send us a cheque made payable to CPRE Hertfordshire, and posted to us at: CPRE Hertfordshire, 31A Church Street, Welwyn AL6 9LW

How do I get people to sponsor me?

Once you have set up your fundraiser, make sure to share it on your social media channels with your friends, family, and colleagues! Share your reasons for taking on the challenge, and let them know how important this challenge is for protecting the green spaces around us.
