See our new video – don’t let the Green Belt be rebranded as ‘grey belt’

13th March 2026

Developers are stepping up their land grab under the guise of ‘grey belt’  –  the Government’s policy for building on poor quality and previously developed land in the designated Green Belt. Watch our new video and write to your MP.

Since the Government’s ‘grey belt’ policy was introduced in 2024, already over 1,000 hectares of beautiful greenfield sites in the Green Belt in Hertfordshire have been subject to mass-development proposals where the planning application argues the site is ‘grey belt’. But these sites are not poor quality nor are they previously developed; they are beautiful countryside and landscapes that local communities value and enjoy.

And we’re seeing more of these speculative, damaging planning applications literally every week. This is an existential threat to the Green Belt countryside, and once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

We’re calling on the Government to urgently change its damaging ‘grey belt’ policy and restore pre-existing protections for the Green Belt. More than 42,000 people have signed our campaign petition, and we’re encouraging all of our supporters to write to your MP.
