Peter Waine, Chair of CPRE Hertfordshire is awarded the OBE!
We are delighted to announce that our Chair of CPRE Hertfordshire, Peter Waine, has been awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for ‘services to the Natural Environment.’
Peter is a former national chair of CPRE, the countryside charity, joining us as Chair of CPRE Hertfordshire in 2024.
Peter has devoted his life to conservation having also Chaired the Tree Council and the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale as well as serving as Master of the Worshipful Company of Gardeners.
Peter is also author and co-author of two books on the countryside and a former judge for the Wainwright Literary Prize (for countryside writing). He also writes on occasion for Country Life.
Commenting on the news, Peter remarked:
‘After 40 plus years in conservation I detect signs of hope. Nature given half a chance can and does bounce back. Hopefully, future generations will enjoy the much greater biodiversity that most previous generations took for granted. That scenario is good for the planet, good for the soul. CPRE and others have shown that we can accommodate the growing aspirations of an increasing population and still have a beautiful world all around us. Work in progress.’
CPRE Hertfordshire are currently campaigning for an urgent change to the NPPF. Please support our nationwide campaign to protect England’s Green Belt by signing here: Change the ‘grey belt’ definition in the National Planning Policy Framework – Petitions
