Vote for your favourite images in our nature photo competition!

The brief was deliberately broad. Photos could show any aspect of the countryside, the environment or the wildlife of Hertfordshire…  be it the peaceful waterways of our unique chalk streams, the stunning scenery of our landscapes, the beauty of ancient woodlands, or the wonder of Hertfordshire’s flora and fauna.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to enter our photo competition. We’ve loved seeing all of your creative contributions depicting the scenic beauty of Hertfordshire, from small birds and mammals to sweeping landscapes.

The short-listed photos

We are very grateful to Peter Cox, President of the Tring & District Camera Club, who participated with us in selecting the shortlisted photos.

The 20 shortlisted photos are shown in the gallery below. You can click on any image to enlarge it, and then scroll to see the other images. 

Please note we had hoped to have three categories – under age 10, age 11 to 17, and age 18+. However, due to the very small number of entries in the two children’s categories these have been combined. As a result there are now two categories –

• CPRE Hertfordshire Children’s Photographer of the Year (age 17 and under), and
• CPRE Hertfordshire Adult Photographer of the Year (age 18+).

The winner in each of these two categories will receive a £100 voucher. In addition, two runners up in each of these two categories will each receive a £25 voucher. Choosing the winners and runners up is by public vote. Voting opens on Monday 21^st September and closes at 5 PM on Friday 25^th September 2026.

How to vote for your favourites

All of the short listed photos are shown in the gallery below. You can click on any image to enlarge it, and then scroll to see the other images.

You may vote for one winner and two runners up in each of the two categories.

To vote, please send us an email at office@cpreherts.org.uk with Photo Competition in the subject line. Then simply tell us the titles of the images that you are voting for – one winner and two runners up in each category.

You may only send one email to vote. And please vote using the titles of the photos so that we know exactly which photos in each category that you are voting for.

We must receive your email by 5 PM UK time on Friday 25^th September 2026.

What happens next

Winners and runners up will be notified on Monday 28^th  September – either by tagging on our CPRE Hertfordshire social media accounts or via email if entry to the competition was made via email.

All winners and runners up will receive their prizes at our CPRE Hertfordshire Countryside Day on 3^rd October 2026, at The Riding School, Stable Yard, Hatfield Park, Hatfield AL9 5HX. We’ll be in touch with winners and runners up to confirm details.
