Our summer walk

15th May 2022

This event has now taken place, but watch this space for details of future walks.

Our guided walk in the beautiful Green Belt countryside west of Welwyn village is on Sunday 26 June 2022.

One of our charity’s aims is to connect people with the countryside, and what better way to do that than go for a walk and appreciate the local scenery? This 7 mile circular walk follows a scenic route through undulating countryside. The route has some gentle hills and is mostly through open land with fabulous views, with some shorter sections of woodland.

Highlights of our route include:

  • The Grade I listed ‘Palladian’ church at Ayot St Lawrence
  • The hornbeam woodland at Stocking Springs Wood Nature Reserve
  • Hunter’s Bridge and a section of the Ayot Greenway, the former branch rail line linking Welwyn Garden City with Luton and Dunstable
  • The hamlet of Ayot St Peter and its Grade II listed ‘Arts & Crafts’ church
  • The site of a proposed solar farm to which CPRE Hertfordshire and many local residents object

Participants will need to wear sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing. Please also bring a packed lunch or snacks, and a drink. We will take a break for a picnic lunch along the route.

Our walk is free but booking in advance is essential – please click on the button below.

All are welcome on our walk, but no dogs please, and under-18s should be accompanied by their responsible adult.
