Latest Official Household Projections

Symonshyde Symonshyde Eliza Hermann

Latest Official Household Projections show big reductions for Hertfordshire. The Projections confirm the trend revealed by the similar reduction in the County’s projected population in the ONS 2018-based population projections published in March. This showed that the projected County population for 2036 is 1,226,566, which is 167,434 (12%) lower than the 2014-based projection of 1,394,000.

The Government’s Office for National Statistics has released the latest 2018-based household projections which are used to inform future planning by local councils. CPRE Hertfordshire has studied these and noted a projected reduction by the year 2036 of more than 77,500 dwellings (13 %) from the 2014-based projections. The last 2016-based projections had also showed a decline but were wrongly dismissed. Local Plans in Hertfordshire have meanwhile allocated 73,000 dwellings in the Green Belt. CPRE Herts argues that the latest evidence can no longer be ignored by Government, Inspectors and Local Planning Authorities and that there is no justification for further development in the Green Belt on the massive scale currently proposed.
