Hertfordshire - Campaign to Protect Rural England

Latest volunteering opportunities

Latest volunteering opportunities

CPRE Hertfordshire's strength lies with the team of volunteers who support our work to protect Hertfordshire's countryside, can you help?

Contributions and expertise vary enormously - whether in finance, marketing, administration or in planning, every little helps.  What we have in common is a passion for the Hertfordshire countryside and a desire to protect and enhance it for now and for future generations.

We are currently looking for

Fundraising Lead.  Highly flexible, remote working in this new, part time role.  We're seeking someone who can advise on fundraising strategy and oversee our fundraising activities, and can also roll up their sleeves and get involved.  For more information please click here.

Database Specialist.  Effective communication with our key stakeholders is critical to the success of the charity, and this is dependent on having accurate and up to date records.  We are seeking a Database Specialist to create and maintain a database of this information in Microsoft Excel.  The role will take around 3 hours per week, is home-based and can easily flex around your other commitments.  Full details of the role are available here.

Administrative Volunteer.  Can you help out our Office Manager for 3 hours each week?  We need someone with good computer skills to help with our Children's Art Competition and other administrative tasks on either a Monday or Thursday each week.  For further details please see the role profile.

Planning Team Volunteer - Application Screening for East Herts and Broxbourne.  In this key role you will conduct an online trawl and preliminary research on potentially harmful development proposals in the eastern part of the county.  The role is home-based, requires 1-2 hours' each week and is a great opportunity to learn more about land use planning.  Please see the role profile for further details.

Trustee -  The pandemic has shown how much we all need and value the green spaces around us, so our work is more important now than ever.  Our Trustees govern the charity and guide our work to protect and promote Hertfordshire's beautiful countryside for everyone to enjoy.  This is an excellent opportunity to play an influential role, applying your management skills and professional experience in marketing and/or communications. For more information and a detailed role description please click here.

Do you live in Three Rivers or Hertsmere? -  Over the coming months, we expect both Three Rivers District and Hertsmere Borough to commence public consultations on their respective draft Local Plans.

We will be working actively to analyze and respond to the proposals presented in these consultations.  We will be scrutinising them for potential harm to the Green Belt and the wider environment.  We already have concerns about the possibility of a new ‘garden village’ in Hertsmere, and a proposed motorway services area in Three Rivers.  If you would be interested in engaging with the Local Plan process with us, please get in touch.  No experience is needed, and there is no specific time commitment expected.  It’s your local “on the ground” knowledge that will be most helpful.  Please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
