Icons of England, introduction by Bill Bryson

Alamy

Commissioned by CPRE in 2008 and now out of print, this beautiful hard-cover ‘coffee table book’ contains 70 unique short essays on the English countryside, accompanied by stunning photography.

We have a limited quantity of this special book, and the thought-provoking essays are as relevant today as they were when written. The book celebrates not just the rolling hillsides and vernacular details that set England apart from the rest of the world. The contributors’ anecdotes showcase a landscape shaped by personal experience, a countryside treasured by all.

Among the contributors are Michael Palin, Andrew Marr, Sebastian Faulks, Joan Bakewell, George Alagiah, Raymond Blanc, Robert Macfarlane, Andy Goldsworthy, and our own CPRE Hertfordshire volunteer Chris Howe.

We are selling our remaining stock of Icons of England at the discounted price of £15 per copy, plus £3 packaging and postage per total merchandise order. (The book had a regular retail price upon publication of £20).

As with all our merchandise, all proceeds help fund our work to protect, promote and enhance the Hertfordshire countryside for everyone’s benefit.
