Awards
Our CPRE Hertfordshire Awards celebrate the achievements of individuals and groups who have worked to protect, promote and enhance the Hertfordshire countryside for the benefit of their local communities and the environment.
CPRE Hertfordshire Children’s Art Competition
The original theme for our Annual Children’s Art Competition was My Favourite Walk in Hertfordshire. The competition was launched to all Primary schools in the county in the hope they would set it as a class project and send the original artwork to the office for judging.
Children's Art Competition 2020
Written by Paul MunnsCPRE Hertfordshire is committed to the protection, promotion and enhancement of the environment within Hertfordshire, to make it a better place to live, work, go to school or enjoy for today and tomorrow. As part of this, we run a Children’s Art Competition. We invite all the primary schools within Hertfordshire to enter and to encourage the children to express themselves through art.
The Presentation Evening in October was a successful evening celebrating efforts made by individuals, groups and businesses to improve life in their community and/or to enhance the environment in Hertfordshire.
The Award Scheme recognises those who work so hard to protect, promote and enhance the countryside and towns or villages to make Hertfordshire a better place to live, work, go to school or enjoy for today and the future. Everyone was eager to hear who would be receiving an Award.
Our thanks go to the Chair of Herts County Council who sponsored the evening. Mayors, Chairs and Councillors from the District and Borough Councils joined the celebrations and everyone was delighted to hear about the amazing things happening across the county.
This is a long standing and well-loved part of the CPRE Hertfordshire calendar, in 2019 the theme was The Trees of Hertfordshire. The children were asked to think about trees; what they look like from a distance or close up, the ecosystems they support and how trees help to keep a balance in nature and the benefits they bring to health and wellbeing. The trees could be in the countryside, in their garden, school grounds or anywhere else. We hope this encourages children to enjoy the natural world through art
2019 saw another successful competition for CPRE Hertfordshire. However, with over 800 pieces of individual artwork it was difficult to judge. The theme this year was “Trees of Hertfordshire” and the art teachers had interpreted this in many different ways. Children sent artwork showing trees in the playground, bark rubbings, abstract trees and some with environmental messages, they were all pretty amazing.
Professional artist, Valerie Cansick, who judged the competition said:
“It has been a privilege and a pleasure to assist with the Children’s' Art Competition for CPRE Hertfordshire during the last few years and I would like to commend and thank all the art teachers, every single one, who so enthusiastically encouraged their pupils to participate. The children certainly did that.
The imaginative collection of artwork always shows how much they take in about nature and the planet, there are many positive and poignant messages coming through loud and clear each year from all participants.”
The competition is open to all primary schools in Hertfordshire and entries are received from reception through to Year 6. This year successful entries came from schools in Puckeridge, Bushey, Welwyn Garden City, Watton at Stone, Borehamwood, Welwyn and South Mymms.
Winning artists will be invited to collect their prizes at the CPRE Hertfordshire Awards Evening which is held in October at County Hall, Hertford.
