Hertfordshire - Campaign to Protect Rural England

High Leigh Garden Village

Thursday, 23 April 2015 00:00

Broxbourne Council has permitted the proposals by Land Improvements Ltd. and Leach Homes, to build up to 523 houses, retail and commercial floorspace, a hotel, school and recreation facilities, with principal access from the A10 Link Road into Hoddesdon, in the Green Belt between the town and the A10. Item updated 23 April 2015.

CPRE Hertfordshire strongly opposed the development for many reasons, including conflict with national policy, and the prejudicial effect approval would have on key decisions about the location of future housing in the Borough that need to be taken through the Local Plan process. Read our response to the planning application below (pdf file). In August 2014 we wrote to the Secretary of State asking for the application to be called in (pdf file below). We were disappointed to learn that the Secretary of State decided not to do so, and contacted the Department for Communities and Local Government to ask for further clarification.
