90th Anniversary a Year of Celebration

CPRE Hertfordshire is the county branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. Founded in 1928, we are a separate registered charity.  Our part time staff and volunteers strive to celebrate and protect Hertfordshire's countryside for all to enjoy.
Throughout 2018 we have tried to mark this achievement in a variety of ways, we started with a new logo which heralded our achievement on a daily basis and we have started to publish a series of articles about our history on our website. It makes good reading so please do take a look.

A guided walk, led by Kevin FitzGerald, took place on Easter Monday in very inclement weather.  It was attended by a few hardy souls who were rewarded with amazing views of the Hertfordshire Countryside, a reminder of how precious it is and how important to continue trying to preserve it for future generations.
In mid-June, Elizabeth Hamilton gave an illustrated talk, it is the third year we have hosted a CPRE Hertfordshire talk during Welwyn Festival Week in the lovely Church Hall.  This is now becoming a regular and popular event in the festival calendar and gave Elizabeth the opportunity to tell a new audience about our History.
Our main event was an evening reception in July, we were joined by many members and local dignitaries who helped us to celebrate. There was a party atmosphere with sparkling wine, canapés and birthday cupcakes.  The final event was the 2018 AGM in September where a beautiful cake was cut and enjoyed by all.
90 years standing up for and striving to protect Rural Hertfordshire is an amazing achievement and we thank each and every one of you for supporting us in so many ways.
We hope you were able to join us for at least one event in 2018.
Thanks to your support we look forward to continuing for many years to come.

CPRE Hertfordshire Spring 2018 newsletter

We are pleased to publish our latest newsletter "Spring 2018" available as a download. Please enjoy reading our latest news and we would appreciate any feedback to enable us to improve this newsletter.

The April site is situated in the Green Belt between Bragbury End and Hooks Cross to the southeast of Stevenage, where a new development of 550 homes is proposed. The walk starts and finishes in the village of Aston, and if timed for late April or early May should feature bluebells in Astonbury Woods.

Throughout 2018, our walk each month will feature the corresponding site in our "Countryside Under Threat" calendar. Our aim is to highlight these sites and raise their profile in aid of local campaigns to prevent their inappropriate development.

This 4.2 mile circular walk was devised by CPRE Herts' Trustee Eliza Hermann.
