Oaklands College A/AS Level photography students received certificates at CPRE Hertfordshire’s Annual Rural Living Awards on Tuesday 18 October at County Hall, Hertford.

The Rural Living Awards aim to highlight efforts made by groups or individuals to improve life and enhance the environment in Hertfordshire's villages and its countryside.

This year CPRE worked with Zoe Hancock and Mike La-Traille from Oaklands College to add a competition into their BTEC Photography, Art and Design syllabus.  The competition was partly sponsored by the Welwyn and Hatfield Chamber of Commerce. Certificates were awarded to those students who took the best photographs of the things they care about in their local countryside.  The photographs were judged by professional photographers and announced at the Awards evening. Their stunning photographs were on display in County Hall until Monday 31 October.

This approach involves younger people in their communities, introduces them to people who can help them both locally and in their careers, but most importantly, it helps up all to join up our ideas and inspirations.
