Planning Manager

(Part-time paid position: Salary £31.5K FTE approx.)

Reports To

The Planning Manager reports to the Honorary Director.

Job Overview

The role of the Planning Manager includes making our case on Local Plans, attending Examinations in Public when necessary, and ensuring we respond to major planning applications.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Leading and managing a small team made up of a paid part-time assistant and volunteers, including retired senior Planning Officers.
  • Reviewing and responding to local authority Local Plans.
  • Attending, including speaking at, Examinations in Public of local authority Plans
  • Reviewing and responding selectively to planning applications, including which member of the team will review these applications in detail.
  • Responding to requests for advice made through the national charity’s planning enquiry intranet.
  • Providing advice to members of the charity and others who telephone or email seeking help and guidance on planning related issues.
  • Providing reports to the Trustees of the charity.
  • Responding to or participating in consultations and national planning policy reviews originated by the national charity

Qualifications

The qualifications that are necessary for someone to fill this position are:-

  • Membership of the RTPI is expected
  • A proven successful career or at least 7 years’ experience in a senior role in Planning
  • Communications and team leadership and management abilities

Working Hours

  • 15 hours a week, spread across 2 or 3 days, to be agreed
  • Some additional hours, as required, especially to attend examinations in public of local authority Plans and, more occasionally, attend meetings at the national charity and to address meetings
