Threatened countryside in Welwyn, Hatfield Threatened countryside in Welwyn, Hatfield SCANGB

An Inspector has now been appointed by the Secretary of State to examine the Welwyn Hatfield Local Plan.

For anyone who submitted comments on the Pre-Submission Local Plan consultation back in October 2016, the Examination will be the last chance to have your say on some of the massive housing development proposals which threaten the Welwyn Hatfield countryside. These include 1650 dwellings north of Hatfield Garden Village, a new village of 1130 dwellings at Symondshyde Farm, 600 dwellings at Cuffley, 1200 dwellings east of Welwyn Garden City (with a further 1800 in neighbouring East Herts), 290 dwellings south of Welwyn Garden City, 250 dwellings west of Brookmans Park and 150 dwellings at Woolmer Green.

If you did not respond to the October 2016 consultation, you may still be able to influence the Inspector’s decisions by working with a local campaign group or parish council that did respond. Or you can support CPRE’s efforts by becoming a volunteer or by making a donation towards our costs. CPRE Hertfordshire intends to participate in the Examination on various matters including Green Belt and Housing Targets.

We would urge members to consider taking part in the Examination Hearings to ensure that the Inspector gives due weight to local concerns. The Hearings start with Part 1 on 21st & 22nd September (relating to the Council’s Duty to Cooperate with other Councils and Legal Requirements). The scope of Part 2, starting on Tues 24th October, has yet to be announced by the Inspector. The Hearings will be held at the Council Chamber at The Campus, Welwyn Garden City.

If you would like to participate in the Hearing sessions, you will need to notify the Programme Officer Louise St John Howe This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

by 5pm on Friday 8th September for Part 1 and by 5pm on Friday 6th October for Part 2. These are also the dates for submitting any Hearing Statements.

Full details and documents can be found on the Welwyn Hatfield Local Plan Examination web pages.

For information on taking part in Examination Hearings visit the CPRE Planning Help website or you could consider employing a planning consultant to represent you at the Hearings.
