On 12th October 2018, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government informed the Council that following careful consideration of all the issues raised in respect of the District Plan holding direction he put in place on 11th September 2018, that his views on the Plan do not differ from the conclusions reached by the Inspector in July.  Therefore, the holding direction has now been withdrawn.

The Council intends to hold an Extraordinary Council meeting on the 23 October 2018 to vote on the official adoption of the District Plan.

James Brokenshire, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has put a freeze on East Hertfordshire District Council’s housing plan.

In his letter to the Council announcing his decision, Mr Brokenshire says that he has received requests to intervene from MP Steven Mc Partland and from CPRE Hertfordshire as well as three parish councils and two local groups.

WHAT'S HAPPENS NOW? Stephen McPartland has done well to get a holding order. He does however only have 3% of the new dwellings in his patch. If the Secretary of State is to intervene residents in Sir Oliver Heald's and Mark Prisk MP constituencies now urgently need to lobby their MP and ask them to back Stephen McPartland in getting the Plan suitably amended.

If you're MP Is either Sir Oliver Heald, or Mark Prisk contact one or the other, tell them of your concerns about the way the Examination has been conducted, point out the key issues raised by CPRE Hertfordshire.

MOST IMPORTANTLY ask them to support Stephen McPartland and have this Plan suitably amended.

We are now in a different ball game where the volume of residents directly lobbying their MP will make a difference.

CPRE Hertfordshire chairman  has written to the Secretary of State for Housing asking for the East Hertfordshire District Plan to be called in.
