Sandridge is one of the oldest villages in Hertfordshire, dating back to 796 AD. The fields around the village were the scene of the Second Battle of St Albans in 1461. This is a circular walk of approximately four miles (6.5km).

This 7.7km (4 3/4 miles) walk - with an option to take a shorter, 6.3km (4 miles) route - starts in Hitchin town centre and quickly reaches countryside which was recently under threat of development, though now reprieved.

CPRE has joined major national litter groups and business organisations to make a joint plea to Government to take a firm lead on litter.

Hertfordshire County Council has been trying to find a sutable site for a new secondary school to serve the Harpenden area for the last five years.

Broxbourne Council has permitted the proposals by Land Improvements Ltd. and Leach Homes, to build up to 523 houses, retail and commercial floorspace, a hotel, school and recreation facilities, with principal access from the A10 Link Road into Hoddesdon, in the Green Belt between the town and the A10. Item updated 23 April 2015.
