Our August Walk of the Month is a 4.5 mile out-and-back linear walk on the middle portion of The Nickey Line, starting and finishing in Redbourn and taking in some of the northern part of the "East Hemel" Green Belt area threatened with development.

Throughout 2018, our walk each month will feature the corresponding site in our "Countryside Under Threat" calendar.  Our aim is to highlight these sites and raise their profile in aid of local campaigns to prevent their inappropriate development.  The August site is referred to as "East Hemel" in the emerging St Albans District local plan.  This is a swathe of land extending from the Woodhall Farm neighbourhood of Hemel Hempstead in the north to Leverstock Green in the south and bounded by the M1 on the east, all of which is in the Green Belt.  The proposed mixed use development would include 2500 houses.  Although the development would sit in Redbourn Civil Parish in St Albans District, it would be contiguous with Hemel Hempstead in Dacorum Borough.
