2017 CPRE Hertfordshire Walk of the month 8 Stanstead Abbots

countryside around Stanstead Abbots countryside around Stanstead Abbots Elizabeth Hamilton

This is a circular walk of just over 5½ miles devised for us by Elizabeth Hamilton (shorter route available).

Park in the free car park to the north of the High Street in Stanstead Abbotts, at approximately the point marked B on the map. St Margarets station, on the railway line to and from Hertford East, is a short distance from the start of this walk.. Suitable footwear and clothing are recommended.

Stanstead Abbotts is a village in the Lea Valley just over 2 miles downstream from Ware, at the junction of the B180 and B181. This walk explores the higher land to the north of the village and also drops down into the valley of the river Ash, a tributary of the Lea. For much of the walk there are far-reaching views in all directions.
This is a circular walk of just over 5½ miles. For those not wanting to walk this far, a shorter return route is available.

If you walk this route and have any feedback/photos you would like to share with us, we would be delighted to hear from you.
