Nominations for CPRE Hertfordshire's 2017 Rural Living Awards are now open, deadline for nominations Friday 26 May.

If you would like to put a project, an individual or a business forward for consideration by our experienced judges then now is the time to think about downloading a nomination form and completing the information.

Don’t be shy, anyone can make a nomination. You can even nominate yourself.

The future of our green and pleasant land, both in terms of environment and community, is under constant threat which is why CPRE Hertfordshire's Rural Living Awards seek to recognise and reward work done by groups, individuals and businesses to improve life and enhance the environment in Hertfordshire's villages and its countryside.

Last year it was good to have 22 nominations but there is so much more happening across Hertfordshire which needs to be publicly acknowledged. If you would like to put a group, an individual or a business forward for consideration now is the time to think about downloading a nomination form and completing the information.

As Judith Watson, one of the judges said “How lovely it would be to have many more nominations to judge in 2017”.

The Awards are judged in two categories – Community and Environment. Judges look for innovative projects that unite rural communities, benefit the community and promote access to the countryside. There are also awards for Rural Living Champions: young people and adults who make outstanding contributions to rural life and a Rural Business in the Community Award: for a rural business which has made an outstanding contribution to rural community life.

Last year's Rural Environment Award was presented to the Ver Valley Society Action Group whose volunteers show outstanding passion for, and commitment to, improving the river Ver and its environs. The Rural Community Award was presented to Redbourn Care Group as the judges all thought this organisation was doing amazing work with so many helping so many over so many years, making a real difference to life in their community. The new Rural Business in the Community Award was presented to French & Jupps in Stanstead Abbotts who have sponsored the High Street car park for the last three years to keep it free, encouraging residents to shop locally.
