CPRE Hertfordshire is celebrating 90 years as a charity commited to the protection of the rural environment within hertfordshire,  as part of our ongoing celebrations we sponsor a "Childrens Art Competition" , encouraging children to enjoy our countryside through art. Each year we invite all the primary schools within Hertfordshire to enter this competition, if you would like your child to participate then we would encourage you to speak to your childs teacher.

WINNING ENTRIES

The theme this year is based on the National CPRE campaign against light pollution. The concern is that, even in the depths of the countryside, genuine dark starry nights are becoming harder to find, spoiling our enjoyment of the night sky.

Security lights, floodlights and streetlights all break into the darkness and create a veil of light across the night sky. While CPRE agrees that some of this light is necessary much of it is wasting energy, spilling into homes disrupting people’s sleep and affecting the behaviour of wildlife.

Don't forget! Entries to our Children's art competition: The Sky at Night are due in on 14 May

The Hertfordshire branch of Campaign to Protect Rural England is again inviting over 200 Primary Schools in Hertfordshire to enter our annual Children’s Art Competition.

We are asking the school children to think about the night sky and to use their imagination to show us what it looks like.

More information about the CPRE NightBlight Campaign and lesson plans for Key Stages 1 and 2 can be found on their dedicated NightBlight Website: nightblight.cpre.org.uk

The competition is open to Primary School children in Hertfordshire. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in years 0-2, years 3-4 and years 5-6. Our judge, local artist Val Cansick, is planning to display a collage of selected artwork at the end of the year.
