VILLAGE OF THE YEAR GETS RESULTS: Winners in the Herts. Village of the Year 2007 Competition
Children's Poster Competition Results 2007 (pdf file)

Hertfordshire Village of the Year Competition is sponsored by Calor in association with Hertfordshire County Council and Hertfordshire Mercury and Majestic Trees
The competition celebrates and encourages village life. It is judged in four categories: Environment, People, Business and Communications. Villages can enter as many, or as few, categories as they wish. Each category carries a prize. To win the Hertfordshire East or Hertfordshire West trophy, and the chance to go through to the regional level of the competition, a village will need to perform well in all four categories.

Who is the Village of the Year Competition for?
Any village, irrespective of size, can enter the competition - quality rather than quantity is what counts. Any interested organisations, or individuals, can enter their village - but check with the Clerk to the Parish Council first, to avoid duplication of effort.

What's in it for my village?

  • Recognition of the value of village life
  • £100 plus a commemorative plaque for category winners from CPRE Hertfordshire, and a framed Calor certificate
  • £250 plus a village trophy each for the Hertfordshire Village of the Year East  (cash prize donated by The Mercury) and Village of the Year West. PLUS the chance of being chosen as our nominee to the England Calor Village of the Year Competition and win up to £9,000
  • The opportunity to find out exactly what is going on in your village and give it a health check - What are you doing well? What could you be doing better?
  • The chance to learn from other villages - and share what you have learned with them - on making the most of opportunities and overcoming problems.
