Campaigns & Policies

CAMPAIGNS

CPRE is a powerful combination of local action and national campaigning. We don't just campaign against damaging policies, we campaign for positive practical alternatives and we are getting results. Our forward-looking ideas are increasingly helping to set the agenda for national, regional and local decision making.

(Plotland: a site, usually surplus agricultural land - bought up by a marketing company, divided in house-sized plots and sold on at vastly inflated prices to unwary investors). Also now known as 'landbanking'

National Issues:

  • Are 3 million new homes necessary? The Government has predicted that by 2020 we must build 3 million new homes. We feel it's better to plan for homes we need, rather than the numbers we might need. Email Housing Minister Caroline Flint to make your views known.
HELP US KEEP THE COUNTRYSIDE FREE OF OBTRUSIVE ADVERTISING: Email us examples of intrusive mobile advertising hoardings alongside roads, to help us assess whether our campaigning has succeeded in turning the tide against an epidemic of unauthorised advertising which has blighted the countryside. Deadline 31 July, 2008.
  • SIGN UP TO RECEIVE EMAIL UPDATES ON OUR PRESIDENT, BILL BRYSON'S  LITTER AND FLY-TIPPING CAMPAIGN
  • TAKE ACTION TO STOP CLIMATE CHAOS: CPRE regards climate change as a huge threat to the English countryside. In February 2008 the Government announced it would set annual targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions as part of its Climate Change Bill, which is great news. Your help could make even more positive change happen. We need the Government to increase the 2050 carbon dioxide reduction target from 60% to at least 80% (this is the amount by which carbon dioxide emission levels should be cut by 2050 from 1990 levels). And it needs to ensure our share of emissions from international aviation and shipping are included in the reduction targets. Ask your MP to support an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions
